The return of business travel with Newstalk ZB

Say no to “you’re on mute”.

It seems like the catch phrases of the last two years are hopefully coming to an end. With borders around the world opening and testing requirements easing, the days of “Can everyone see my screen?” appear to be nearly over. Now more than ever, Kiwi businesses are ready to fly.

There is no denying that Zoom is extremely convenient, but recently in an interview with NewsTalkZB’s Kate Hawkesby, Corporate Traveller New Zealand’s General Manager, Keeley Alton, remarked that Corporate Traveller’s customers are ready to invest in the face-to-face connections. Travel is roaring back. Not just personal travel, but Kiwi businesses are hungry to get back out there, safely. During the interview, Kate and Keeley discussed how Kiwi businesses have begun to show much more interest in getting their travellers back on the road, with particular emphasis on the need to ensure traveller risk is minimized. Corporate Traveller's account managers are pro-actively conducting risk surveys on behalf of customers and working tirelessly to support their safe return to international travel amidst the pandemic.

International travel demand is growing, currently doubling week on week demonstrating that appetite is there for kiwi businesses to rid themselves of 'Zoom Freeze Face' and to do business in person.  Domestic travel on the other hand is still hindered by omicron but prior to this, volumes were close to 100% of pre-COVID levels indicating that in-person meetings and connection is still preferred for our customers, and we expect this to bounce back again in the very near future.

In saying that, pre-lockdown in late 2021, New Zealand domestic business travel activity was at almost 100% of pre-COVID levels. It’s clear that the demand for in-person meetings and connection is still prevalent to the corporate world and is expected to bounce right back in the very near future.
