Why choice is shaping corporate travel in 2026

Despite a tricky economic backdrop, New Zealand businesses aren't cutting back on travel - they're doing more of it. At our latest CT Collective event, we shared what our data from April 2025 to March 2026 is telling us, and the headline is clear: bookings are up 10% and traveller numbers up 4% across our NZ client base, with a small but notable shift toward trans-Tasman trips over domestic ones.

So what's behind the growth without a matching jump in travel budgets? In a word: choice. Aggressive dynamic pricing has pushed more businesses toward carriers like Jetstar when fare gaps blow out, even as
Air New Zealand pulls ahead on reliability — while accommodation bookings are spreading across more properties than ever as travellers pick what genuinely suits the trip.

It's a reminder that a smart travel policy isn't about chasing the lowest fare on paper, but about knowing your cutover points, benchmarking against your industry, and building in visibility and communication so good choices happen by default.
