Rex wins Government regulated routes

Regional Express will operate three new Queensland routes from 1 January 2015. The Gulf Route will fly from Cairns to Normanton, Gununa (Mornington Island), Burketown, Doomadgee and Mount Isa. Two western routes will operate from Brisbane to Toowoomba (Wellcamp), Quilpie, Cunnamulla, Thargomindah, Charleville, St George, Windorah, Birdsville, Bedourie, Boulia and Mount Isa. Existing Regional Express routes from Townsville to Longreach, Winton, Mt Isa, Hughenden, Julia Creek and Richmond have also been renewed. The Queensland Government has also awarded two regulated routes to QantasLink, which will fly from Brisbane to Roma and Charleville and from Brisbane to Longreach, Barcaldine and Blackall.

New Hilton brand 

Hilton Worldwide has launched its new lifestyle hotel brand, Canopy by Hilton. The brand currently has 11 new build and conversion projects in the pipeline including properties in London, Miami, San Diego, Washington DC and New York. Canopy by Hilton delivers four essential elements - great neighbourhoods, comfort and design, a unique culture and more included value - and free basic wi-fi, artisanal breakfast and evening beer and wine tastings.

Accor mobile in Singapore

Guests staying at the ibis Singapore on Bencoolen guests can now take advantage of Accor’s Planet 21 program. Visitors who select a room with extra benefits will have access to a smartphone that offers unlimited 3G internet, local and international calls and a city guide highlighting Singapore’s best attractions, bars, restaurants and activities.

IHG recognised at industry awards

InterContinental Hotels & Resorts has been named Asia’s leading business hotel brand for the third consecutive year at the 2014 World Travel Awards Asia & Australasia. IHG was also named Australasia’s leading hotel brand overall for the third time. Other wins included InterContinental Sydney winning the title of Australasia's Leading Hotel and Australasia's Leading Business Hotel. InterContinental Melbourne the Rialto was also recognised as Australia's Leading Conference Hotel.

Etihad to boost DFW route to daily

Due to high demand, Etihad Airways has announced capacity increases to its Abu Dhabi-Dallas/Fort Worth route before the official launch. Flights to Dallas will commence on 3 December as a triple weekly service, with frequency increasing to daily from 16 April 2015.

United perks at SFO 

United Airlines has unveiled new check-in options at San Francisco International Airport. Members of its invitation-only Global Services program will be welcomed at a new reception lobby located in Terminal 3. The lobby offers personalised check-in services for those travelling in United Global First on long-haul international flights as well as priority security access. Premier members of its MileagePlus loyalty program will benefit from a new check-in area offering expedited services such as self-serve bag tagging.

Dubai Airports app

A new app is available for those travelling to Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Al Maktoum International Airport at Dubai World Central (DWC). The app features a find your flight function that provides updates on gate changes and boarding times, 3D airport maps that highlight services, such as food, beverage and retail outlets and a flight tracking function via Flight Radar 24.

Qantas Platinum One perks update

Qantas Frequent Flyer’s elite Platinum One tier members can now access a suite of new benefits. These include Platinum membership for a spouse or de facto, including access to Qantas International First Lounges and Domestic Business Lounges, free Qantas Golf Club Premium membership (expected to launch in coming months) and 75,000 bonus Qantas Points when members accumulate 5000 Status Credits in a membership year. Platinum One members travelling on flexible fares will also have any fare differences waived when paying at the airport to change to earlier QF domestic flights.
