IHG Rewards Club reaches new heights

InterContinental Hotels Group has launched a new top membership level for its IHG Rewards Club. Members can reach the new The Spire Elite tier by accumulating 75,000 qualifying reward points or by staying at IHG hotels for 75 qualifying nights per year. Members can earn 100% extra bonus points on qualifying stays and have the option to upgrade a friend or family member to Platinum membership or to receive an additional 25,000 points.

Qantas’ direct SFO service on sale 

Qantas' direct services between Sydney and San Francisco are now on sale. The route will commence on 18 December on peak days only and increase to a six time weekly service by the end of January 2016. Flights will operate on B747s and depart from Sydney at 3pm each day, arriving in San Francisco at 9.30am the same morning. 

Marriott reaches milestone in China

Marriott International has opened a new hotel in China. The 311-room Zhuzhou Marriott in Hunan province is the 20th Marriott-branded property in China and also the group’s 80th property in the country. The new hotel features three restaurants, an indoor swimming pool, fitness centre and six meeting and events spaces. 

New Adina for Auckland

TFE Hotels will open its first Adina Apartment Hotel in New Zealand. The 128 room Adina Apartment Hotel Auckland, Britomart will open in mid October and house 128 rooms. 

Virgin Dreamliners Hong Kong-bound 

Virgin Atlantic is now operating B787-9 Dreamliner aircraft on services between London Heathrow and Hong Kong. The aircraft features a new Upper Class bar and offers 31 seats in Upper Class (Business), 35 in Premium Economy and 198 in Economy. 

New Holiday Inn Express for Bangkok

InterContinental Hotels Group will open a new Holiday Inn Express hotel in Bangkok. The 240 room Holiday Inn Express Bangkok Chinatown is scheduled to open in 2017 as part of a mixed development with retail shops, restaurants and bars. The hotel will offer easy access to the rest of the city via the new Chinatown train station which is also expected to open in the same year. The property will feature a self-service business centre, 24-hour fitness centre and free in-room wi-fi.

Rydges Perth move 

Rydges Perth is relocating to the site of the 117-room Kings Perth Hotel at 525 Hay Street. The property will be rebranded in mid-2016 following a major revamp that will add 57 new rooms to the property. The hotel also features a restaurant and coffee shop.

QF guests use JAL lounge 

Eligible travellers on Qantas’ new Tokyo Haneda service will be able to use JAL lounges in Tokyo. Platinum Frequent Flyers and oneworld Emerald members will be able to use JAL's First Lounge with Qantas Gold Frequent Flyers, Qantas Club members and oneworld Sapphire members can use the carrier’s Business Lounge.
